Student Posters and Papers Wanted

Student Posters and Papers Wanted

Calling all students! The Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis invites you to submit a Poster or Research Presentation for the SCEH 2019 Annual Conference in New Orleans.  See details on special student registration incentives below.  Any student eligible for membership may participate in SCEH events.
Have a Poster to Submit?

We are looking for new ideas and topics in hypnosis and related fields that improve our understanding of hypnosis. While topics that address this year’s conference theme, Clinical and Applied Hypnosis: Evidence-based Practice and the Therapeutic Relationship, are requested, other topics are also welcome.

Poster presentations allow authors to concisely present a case report or data that can be easily grasped in this format. Poster presentations often permit more discussion between presenters and attendees and may be especially advantageous for students, clinicians, and new investigators.

Benefits of Presenting a Poster

Presenting a Poster at the SCEH Annual Conference provides you with several benefits, including:

  • a special student member discount for poster presenters -- attend the conference for just $50
  • peer review and critique with leading experts to stimulate constructive learning
  • the ability to present, debate and refine your research through one on one discussions with attendees and leaders in the field
  • a chance to discuss early stages of a bigger project at a time when input can be most beneficial
  • the chance to enhance your public speaking skills during a Poster Blitz Session
  • the chance to enhance your communication skills at the Poster Session itself
  • public recognition of your research and work
  • a face-to-face opportunity to network and grow relationships with fellow students, researchers, clinicians and leaders in the hypnosis field
  • the ability to list your selection as a Poster Presenter on your curriculum vitae
Scheduled Poster Activities

The SCEH Poster Session takes place prior to the SCEH Annual Conference Banquet on Saturday evening and provides an excellent showcase of the latest research.  Poster authors are asked to stand by their displayed poster and be prepared to answer questions about its content during the Poster Session.  Prior to that, a brief Poster Blitz Session during the Scientific Program provides each poster author with 2- 3 minutes to describe their topic.

Could your Poster Be a Research Presentation?

If you already have a poster, or a topic you think could be expanded upon, consider submitting a Research Presentation Proposal.  Student members who are selected to give a Research Presentation receive a free registration to the entire conference (workshops plus Scientific Program).

We view the role of Presenter as both a service and an honor. As a Presenter, you have the opportunity to demonstrate your expertise, share knowledge and/or best practices, help others, grow professionally, forge new relationships and enhance your reputation in the field. Presenters also benefit from the exchange of ideas and attendee feedback, and find the experience both professionally and personally rewarding.

The Scientific Program features Research Presentations that address empirical issues in hypnosis research and practice and related areas. Presentations shine the light on novel empirically-based findings, including:

  • experimental studies
  • case reports
  • clinical trials
  • meta-analyses
  • systematic reviews

Many presentations feature research in psychology, psychiatry, or neuroscience to improve our understanding of hypnosis.
